Organizational Words/Terms

Please consult the following list for the proper spelling, capitalization, and usage of CFA Institute–specific words/terms.

  • CFA Institute Asset Manager Code (first mention), Asset Manager Code or the Code (subsequent mentions); Do not use AMC
  • Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR, predecessor of CFA Institute)
  • Candidate Body of Knowledge (not the CFA Body of Knowledge)
  • CFA Institute Investment Foundations Program (Investment Foundations Program on second mention)
  • CFA Institute Research Challenge
  • CFA Institute Research Foundation
  • CFA Program
  • CFA Program Partners
  • CIPM Program
  • Code of Ethics (for the CFA Institute Code of Ethics)
  • exams (preferred over “examinations,” but some circumstances may call for the more formal “examinations”). Required usage on the web is “exams.”
  • Financial Analysts Federation (FAF, a forerunner of AIMR and CFA Institute)
  • Future of Finance initiative
  • GIPS standards [use the Standards (note capital “S”) when “GIPS” is omitted]
  • Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (ICFA, a forerunner of AIMR and CFA Institute)
  • Level I, Level II, Level III CFA exam (for the CFA Program exams)
  • member society/societies, local society/societies (generic noun usage, avoid CFA Society/CFA Societies as a noun)
  • not-for-profit (not “non-profit” when referring to the organization)
